Calvin Klein gel eyeliner and Maybelline Dream Fresh BB cream

Hey peeps!

If you've been following my blog, you may recall that in my list of procrastination techniques, I mentioned practicing makeup application, and that I was crap at applying eyeliner.

Hopefully that will be no more! I purchased some Calvin Klein gel eyeliner in cocoa sheen, and love it after my first application. I don't claim to be a makeup expert, but here's my opinion:

• It's super smooth and creamy, and it was easy as to load up my brush
• Goes on easy, and made a pretty good line
• Colour was good on the skin, in the pot it looks like it has a bit of a sparkle to it, something you don't notice once it's on
• Easy as pie to blend.
• But, maybe not so great if you want a sharp, precise line.

For me the colour was great, I have golden blonde hair with dark green eyes, and black is a little bit harsh for my liking. The brown colour isn't that obvious, especially once you apply mascara. I will admit though, I didn't check reviews of the product until after I had bought it. From what the internet was saying, it was a crap eyeliner. Mine came new and unboxed so I didn't get the brush. All good in the hood though because I have my own set of brushes. If it had come with the brush, then I think this review would've been not that great: It's small and pathetic- click here!

So five stars for this eyeliner! Super pleased.

UPDATE: I wore the eyeliner today, all day (24/09/13) and found that it wasn't very long lasting. To be honest though, I'd been wearing from 6:00am til 4:00pm which a good 10hrs. I only noticed it had disappeared when I took it off. Not a big factor for me, purpose of my eyeliner is to cover up the blonde roots of my eyelashes. This is just mentioned if it bothers others :)

I couldn't stop with just applying the eyeliner though. I had to apply a full face of I'm-getting-drunk-tonight-and-maybe-a-little-slutty makeup, to get the full effect. I'd received a sample of the new Maybelline BB cream in the mail today so I substituted that for my usual foundation (Natio mineral liquid).

Ugh, wish I hadn't!

• Far too dark for my skin tone, I almost turned oompa loompa like. It promised to 'blend in with your natural skin tone' Whatever, Trevor. It did nothing of the sort.
• Was ridiculously thick! I used bugger all but it still looked like I'd caked it on
• Not easy to blend in (I just used my fingers)

My normal foundation is a million times better than that BB crap. And girls go out every day with this stuff on!? This is only for the Maybelline stuff, though, I can't speak for other brands.

Negative stars times infinitely for this tar like substance.

Clearly I am not affiliated with Maybelline lol, if I were they'd sack my ass or sue me or something.

Things that piss the hell out of me!

I'm not going to call them 'pet peeves' for two reasons
a) I don't like the term
b) It's so mainstream and generic...something I try not to be.

WARNING! Don't take any of this personally. If you do, don't cry about it, you're the one who chose to read the post!

• People who throw rubbish on the ground! Especially when there's a bin like 2 metres away. Really annoys me, it's just so disrespectful!
• Spitting in public. Just ew.
• People who don't show up for lectures then ask for your notes. I don't mind this for people who were sick on the day or had some other legit reason, but when you 'slept in' or 'just couldn't be bothered' or 'didn't have enough money for fuel because I spent it on McDonalds' yeah...you get the drift. Here's what goes on in my head: 'I really don't want to give you my notes, but I will anyway, because otherwise I'll get the reputation of class bitch, even though it would be totally unfair to myself.'
• People who try and hold a conversation with me during a lecture/while I'm reading/listening to music...and then wonder why they're being ignored.
• Ok, so I'm a hard working person, with no student allowance with a part time job doing full time study right? I pay my taxes, and I don't mind that they go to the upkeep of roads, all the infrastucture stuff, blah de blah. What I really don't like is when my hard earned money, goes towards the dole/student allowance/sickness benefit then you hear about people on those benefits putting all that money into booze, crap stuff in general that is not essential to keep you alive. For me personally, when I had the student allowance, all my money went to rent/groceries/fuel. And quite frankly, that's how it should be. 
• People who think they're 'skux' and play music loudly from their phones in public. Most of the time it's shitty mainstream stuff. If it were the Goo Goo Dolls, I'd probably go up and kiss that person.
• 'Gangsters' who don't know what a belt is. 
• Chicks who were leggings as pants. THEY ARE NOT PANTS AND WE CAN ALL SEE YOUR UNDERWEAR SO PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD BUY SOME FRICKEN JEANS OR SOMETHING!!!!! See you've all made me really mad, I locked the caps!!!! But honestly, the only people who should be wearing something so skin tight with nothing over top, are ballet dancers and swimmers. 
• Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj and their fans. I don't think any explanation is needed here.

I'm sure I have plenty more, but that's enough rage for now. Phew.

A cool website and tattoo after care

Now to a less serious note!

I found this really cool website last year, through an online girls magazine (which unfortunately was shut down! It also was a cool site, and if it was still open I would totally put the link in this blog). This site is called stringsof.me, a New Zealand based site I'm pretty sure.
   So it's sort of an online diary, with a twist. Each day they ask you a different question; from serious ones such as 'The biggest personal injustice I have ever experienced is...' to less serious ones that have to do zombie apocalypses and wars between fruit and vegetables. Then they ask you the same question, on the same day, each year, so you can see how your answers,opinions, and maybe yourself have changed.  You also have the option to draw a little picture that matches with your answer.
  There's no sharing your answers with Facebook or Twitter, but you can share via email or with a whimsical rabbit. It's such a quirky little website, that's why I love it.
  If you like, you can even share stories or opinions :)

To the next subject: Tattoo aftercare

I got my first tattoo April this year; a dolphin and waves on my left shoulder blade. It's in full colour, coming up 6 months and the colour hasn't leached one little bit: So some tips:

• Some tattooists will wrap your new tattoo in plastic wrap. This is thought to stop bacteria breeding, but unfortunately will also stop oxygen getting through. Your tat is an open wound, it has to breathe. Personally, I removed the plastic wrap 3-4 hours afterwards. No problems.
• I bathed my tat twice a day with warm water and fragrance free soap that had no additives. It's worth spending the extra money to get an organic brand. You don't need an antibacterial soap either. I used my hand to rub my tat in slow, gentle circles - make sure your hands are clean as you can possibly get them. Rinse gently. To dry, use a clean hand towel that you've kept aside for use only on your tattoo. Or even better, let it air dry
• Moisturise your tattoo with fragrance free, colour free moisturiser. I used Aveeno Active Naturals Daily Moisturising Lotion, with colloidal oatmeal. It worked a charm, pretty sure that's why the colour in mine turned out so nicely.
• At 3-4 days, your tattoo will start peeling. This is part of the process, don't freak out! Some people also experience scabbing, this is also part of the process. 
• I carried on with washing and moisturising twice daily for two weeks. Even now I still moisturise my tat occasionally. 

And a note on pain: outlining wasn't bad, its the shading and bits of the bone that hurt the most. Managed to spit out a few swear words at that point haha. It feels like the pain of a mild bee sting, only constant.

So, I hope I've been of some use to the world wide web!

Yoghurt for dinner

These were my odd thoughts while I was eating yoghurt for dinner

The TV was blaring in the background, some war story, I think it was about the chemical attacks in Syria. Pictures flash across the screen, the warning 'some of these images may be disturbing' but how many of us really turn away? Anyway, so snips of footage show of children convulsing, blood, dilated pupils, with the accompanying heartbreaking symphony of screaming and shouting. Miserable depressing thoughts it gave me.

Then I jump on Facebook; all my fellow marine biology friends posting updates about the leak of radioactive water into the Pacific Ocean, no more eating fishes for you, they might have more eyes than you can count.

And more locally...

The GCSB bill-
Selling off assests-
Snapper quota-
Maui Dolphins-
..etc. John Key is basically kicking himself out of power.

I could honestly go on forever, murders, decline of animal populations, deforestation in the Amazon, rising sea levels, pollution.

And believe me, I care about every single one of these issues, and many more besides. Sometimes I think I care too much.
  So I savoured the tangy taste of passionfruit, and I thought- if all this can go on and I can still sit here and eat passionfruit yoghurt for dinner without being reprimanded or judged for it, then maybe the world isn't so terrible after all. Because who knows, maybe one day someone will be chucked in jail because they were found eating yoghurt for dinner, or red velvet cake for breakfast.

My point is, my lovely internet friends, is that we should always appreciate the little things in life, and take a positive spin on everything, because you don't know how much longer it will last.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones movie review

So! I finally went and saw City of Bones.

Not what I expected...

To be frank, I wasn't happy with it. If you're an ultimate fan like me and you've read the book several times over, you'll be disappointed. Scenes in the wrong places, spoken lines in the wrong places, big scenes that don't occur in the book (and in fact goes completely against the rules of the Shadowhunter world) and tidbits of information that you don't learn until you're well into the second and third books of the story. So straight up, the script was terrible, and I wish like hell that Cassie Clare had found a director that would let her write the script or at least have some pull with it. So yeah, I was pretty much constantly annoyed with how things turned out. But I guess the movie was made as a stand alone thing, assuming the audience hadn't read the book. In that case I guess it was a pretty good movie...but meh, still annoyed :P

I do have some praise though!!

Overall, casting was awesome! Though Magnus could have been a lot more flamboyant, he was far too serious, although Godfrey Gao pulled off the looks nicely. Alec (Kevin Zegers) was pretty much perfect, nice and sullen, Isabelle (Jemima West) was kick ass and her whip was awesome! Jocelyn (Lena Headey) Luke (Aidan Turner) and Hodge (Jared Harris) were all really well played, along with Valentine (Johnathan Rhys Meyers) (who's hair wasn't white, and he looked a little old for my tastes) Jace (Jamie Campbell Bower) was perfect, all though slightly monotone when it came to the jokes. Clary was spot on, Lily Collins really played her well. But Simon (Robert Sheehan) really takes the cake!

The fight scenes were really good, although there technically should have been more of it. The demons were cool, steles and runes were awesome, and the sets in general were pretty sweet. Though I do think that the Institute was slightly over done. I honestly thought that runes would be used more, but instead they were only used on skin, not on solid objects.

In conclusion...
From a fan's perspective: 6/10
For the movie itself 8/10

It's random rant time!

Hey you!

OMG MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES IS RELEASED NEXT THURSDAY!!

I'm pretty excited, if you couldn't tell. I LOVE the Mortal Instrument series, second all time favourite book series! Currently re reading City of Fallen Angels (the fourth book). Just hope they don't ruin the book...I will not be happy. But Cassie Clare (author) seems to be happy with everything so I'm sure her huge fan base will be too. Mortal Instruments is fantasy/romance based about a race of half human half angel warriors who kill demons, so if that sounds like your thing, I suggest you pick them up. If you're quick you could still claim that you've read the book before the movie :D

Rant time!

I'll keep it short...

So I have this ex boyfriend right, who says he's still in love with me. It's been 8 months since I broke it off, but I feel like he still won't leave me alone (just realised he might be able to see this, but you know what, I don't really care). It's just things I've heard through friends, things he's said that make me feel like it's not over yet. Though personally I haven't seen or communicated with him for at least a couple of months now. He always said that I was his one true love, but I don't understand how that can be if I didn't feel the same way? Is that kind of thing possible? I feel like it could even just have been infatuation...like I read poetry that I wrote about him and I don't FEEL anything from it, like it's empty, its lost all its meaning and now it's just words on paper. I definitely don't think the same about other stuff I've written, which in a way is kind of a relief. I've also come to the realisation that the ratio of good moments:bad moments between him and my other ex are totally different...which in a way was surprising. But anyway I guess I can only move forward :) As a side note, definitely liking being single right now!
